Just as we may be incorrectly expecting extraterrestrial life's appearance and traits to be based on our own bias of carbon based anthropomorphism, are we also stuck in the familiar and popular hypotheses concerning ghosts?
I have written previously about my Cajun Medicine Man friend, Omolkhua. He continues to help those seeking his talents when dealing with what he calls "the unseen." To a non-Native American like myself, a more familiar term might be "ghost," or "spirit." Unlike the TV ghost shows and so many individual ghost hunting teams in existence, his efforts were necessitated by a calling not for enjoyment, curiosity, fame or notoriety, but a genuine heartfelt desire to help others and live his belief in sharing his knowledge and talent with others. It is the way passed down through his family and his Chitimacha nation's teachings. He does not go in search of finding spirits. The people and families who believe they have no where else to turn for assistance, seek him out. Here is an example of one such situation he was called upon to help with.
"I received a call yesterday afternoon from a friend who referred me to a family with a 10-year-old boy who has for as long as the boy can remember, seen his grandfather (who passed on when, I don’t know). The mother of the young man is desperate and is trying to help her son. Now, the story becomes a little dark. The grandfather use to abuse the kid; in what manner, I don’t know, be it physical like spanking, verbal or other. The father of the young man who is having these “bad dreams - dreams about his grandfather” does not believe in ghosts and thinks his son is only doing it for attention. So, only time will tell. If the dead have attached themselves to a person, that takes a little bit of work to break that bond...
I spoke to his mom today; what she shares is not good at all. She mentioned that the young man, since he was a toddler, had experienced bad nights and now at his age refuses to sleep in his room. He said he sees the small lights come together and form a shape of a person. Then, there are the others who come up through the floor. He rotates rooms that he sleeps in and never the same one. So, I had given 5 stones to a friend who had told me about this family, and he asked if he could give the stones to the young man. Yes, was my answer. Now what happens next has me worried.
The mom, having received the stones from my friend, said to her son, "pick two of them." He picked a black one and an orange one. They're supposed to be the four colors of the medicine wheel. The fifth stone was a neutral color. The boy grabbed the two mentioned stones and said, "OK, now what?" The mom replied, "you're supposed to know what to do with them." The boy took the two stones into his bedroom and sets them down by his bed and the other three were left on the ground. The boy asked, “what do we do with these?” Mom said, "well, we can put them in the house." The boy picked up the remaining three stones and took them into his room also. About an hour or so goes by, the boy goes into his room, grabs the stones and gives them to his mom saying, "mom, get them out of here." The mother, asking her son what is wrong, receives the reply "they're making me sick, you've got to get them out of here. I can't stand them, they're too much! It's too much for me to handle. I can't handle them! Get rid of them!" The mom says, "but son, they're just rocks. There's nothing to them." The boy replies, "mom, there's more to them than you know. Get rid of them. They're making me sick."
Upon receiving this latest information about the stones, Omolkhua called the family on the phone to see if he could help further, to see if he could get an idea of the place and what might be there. He states he doesn't even have to go into the home, he can just be outside. The husband does not believe in any of this and dismissing all of the boy's experiences as just a phase in the boy's life. The mother, believing there is more to it than what the father believes, extends her wishes for Omolkhua's help. Omolkhua asked the mother to tell him what happened to the stones. The mom told how she took the stones out of the boy's room but still had them in the house. The boy came out of his room and sat on the couch. He began to cough uncontrollably for no apparent reason, again saying between coughs, "get them out." The mom took the stones out of the house and put them in her vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the boy composed himself and was better.
The mom asked Omolkhua just what were those stones. He replied, "we call them grandfather stones and they have medicine. The colors represent the medicine wheel and have been through ceremony." The mom wanted to get them back to Omolkhua's friend who had been in possession of the stones. She explained how her son will never sleep in the same room each night. He moves throughout the house and that one of the things he sees are these little lights or orbs that sort of congregate from nowhere and become like the shape of a person and describing them as "those are the good guys."
Omolkhua extends the offer to come to the home at a future date of their choosing to see if he can be of help, saying "you can ask me any questions you wish. You get to see me as a person. Your friend who referred your problem to me can come with us if you like. We can first sit and you can get an idea of who I am. I can share my personal experiences. "As a child, I was very much like your son... terrified... it was not a very pleasant timeline. Now as an adult, I see these things, but they don't scare me. I think it would be best if your son would at least learn how to protect himself." Omolkhua asked if the house was an old house. The mom replied, "no, it's a brand new trailer that we placed on my grandfather's land that he allowed us to place it. It's where we live. It's brand new." The mom knew nothing about the land except the grandfather owned it since the 1950's when he had purchased it. Omolkhua strongly encouraged the father to hold on to his non-believing of the claimed events, ghosts, spirits and whatever else might be out in the world. "He should hold on to that for dear life because as this continues, there's the possibility that 'something' will cross his path." The phone conversation concluded at that point leaving further contact up to the discretion of the parents.
[Being at his own home, Omolkhua went to get a glass of water in his kitchen and asked aloud, "what are you?" (not 'who' are you but 'what' are you) Chills ran through him for 5-10 seconds. He thought, this is not an "unseen." This is beyond that, something stronger. It didn't reveal itself. He could feel there is some kind of burial, unsure if it is native, as natives never usually put markers down, or settlers to the area that might have died there, buried there... whatever marker long removed or missing from the land.]
NOTE: this is where this situation is at the current moment...
To me, this is the "real deal" paranormal. Not that typical ghost TV show malarkey. No audio recorders required. No ghost boxes, EMF detectors, SLS cameras required.
Stay tuned...
